Funaoka Joshi Park is the only one in Miyagi Prefecture listed on Japan’s top 100 cherry blossom viewing spots. The recommended way to appreciate beautiful scenery is taking monorail slope car through 305-metre long sakura tunnel and arriving at 24-metre tall Funaoka Heiwa Kannon statue on the mountaintop. The park is connected with Shiraishi River which is also a famed place to view cherry blossoms by the Shibata Sen’oukyo bridge.
